At the World Routes Marketing Awards 2018 held in Guangzhou last month, Singapore's Changi Airport emerged as the winner in the ‘Over 50 Million Passengers’ category. The annual awards recognize excellence in air hub marketing, and winners are determined by a panel of senior airline representatives. As at 1 October 2018, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to some 400 cities in about 100 countries and territories worldwide. With more than 7,200 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 80 seconds. The world’s longest commercial flight by Singapore Airlines, from Singapore's Changi Airport to New York (Newark Liberty International Airport) was also launched on 11 October 2018. With this new daily non-stop service, there are 72 weekly passenger services between Changi Airport and the United States.
For the month of September, all regions registered growth, with traffic to and from Northeast Asia rising 7%. This was supported by the strong performance of China (+12%) and Japan (+11%), which led the gainers among Changi’s top markets. Europe and North America also registered strong growth, both registering double-digit year-on-year growth. Comments are closed.
