Georgian wine is acknowledged as being one of the earliest, if not the earliest form of wine making in the world. A trip to Georgia would not be complete without visiting Kakheti, Georgia’s stunning wine region, to learn about traditional Georgian wine-making methods and to explore adorable old towns and monasteries. Lopota Lake Resort & Spa, just three hours drive from Tbilisi, is located in the Kakheti region. It is a great place for relaxation after a day of visiting vineyards and exploring quaint small towns. Judging from the number of outdoor swimming pools and outdoor sports facilities in the Resort, it is most suitably a summer holiday destination. Lopota Lake Resort & Spa has 186 rooms, each with spectacular views of Lopota Lake and valley from the private balconies. There are four meeting rooms at Lopota Lake Resort & Spa for corporate conferences and other business events. None of these rooms are available for inspection during MICEreview’s visit as they were either occupied or closed for renovation. Several other indoor and outdoor spaces in different parts of the resort are also available for meeting purposes. A unique venue is Chateau Buera which houses the wine-making facilities, wine cellar, wine tasting and fine dining restaurant of the Resort. Here, guests can tour the underground wine cellar and learn about the traditional Georgian way of making wine versus the modern European style. The chateau’s wine bar and dining area offer a great view of Lopota Lake’s grape plantation. There is also a meeting room here for small private meeting. Apart from its own vineyard, the Resort strives to be self sufficient in some of its food supplies. Plantation of some herbs and vegetables and a farm in the Resort ensure supply of fresh food for guests everyday, and also serves as an educational attraction for urban guests from the cities.
