Thailand International Air Show, initiated by Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), was approved during the meeting of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO) held on March 9, 2022 and chaired by the Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha. The EECO’s approval led by the Prime Minister is equivalent to a cabinet resolution. The proposal for an air show of this scale was the first of its kind initiated by TCEB. The recommendations were based on a series of feasibility studies and consultations conducted by TCEB since 2018.
Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has launched its bid to host a Specialised Expo 2028 in Phuket with an aim to promote strong recovery of post-COVID MICE industry.
Thailand’s bid will feature Phuket as the host city. To be known as ‘EXPO 2028 Phuket’, it will be co-hosted by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health and the province of Phuket. The health-focused theme will be ‘Future of Life: Living in Harmony, Sharing Prosperity’. The Thai Ambassador to France, H.E. Mr Sarun Charoensuwan recently submitted Letter of Candidature to Mr Dimitri S. Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the expo’s governing body, Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), in Paris. The Center of Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), Thailand’s government’s body overseeing disease control measures and COVID-19 policies, has approved Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau's (TCEB) proposal to allow MICE events to be held under “COVID Free Setting” protocols, effective October 16.
The approval follows the government’s announcement on October 11 that fully-vaccinated overseas visitors will be allowed to enter Thailand without having to serve quarantine from November 1. The reopening will begin with a list of countries the CCSA considers low-risk, such as the US, UK, China, Germany and Singapore. Also announced were shortened curfew hours, fewer provinces categorised as maximum controlled and strict zone where stringent controls are mandatory for gatherings, and allowing domestic flights to operate at full capacity. With most ASEAN member nations slowly moving towards resumption of tourism activities, Sihanoukville is set to host the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) from 16-22 January 2022. Nevertheless, the Covid-19 situation will be closely monitored to ensure that the event is safe to run.
