Dubai Desert Safari

Despite all the high-tech glitz and glamour in Dubai, what is a MICE event in the UAE without some desert experience? Go for an exhilarating sand-dune four-wheel drive, a lazy ride on a camel, or spot endangered arabian oryx and gazelles and end with a theme dinner in the desert conservation reserve.

Of course, the desert safari experience is already an optional tour programme offered to any tourist visiting Dubai. However, for MICE groups, the possibility for customisation is limitless. The theme, food, entertainment and programme can be customised for each group based on the event objective and budget.

There are different operators for desert safari experience, some with better MICE capabilities than others. Larger operators may have their own fleet of four-wheel drive vehicles and experienced drivers, and they manage more private camps inside the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve to suit events of various sizes. One of the operators, Arabian Adventures, manages one large camp, Al Lisaili, which is outside the Conservation Reserve, that can take up to 4,000 guests.

An experience in the midst of the desert is truly unforgettable as, without the trees and vegetation, one can really feel the vastness of the land. And if you happened to catch the sun setting on the desert, that would surely be a beautiful sight. You can rely on the experience drivers to take you to the best spot to capture the sunset on camera.  On the day of this review, the sky was cloudy and hence MICEreview failed to catch the sunset, but that also contributed to a cooler, breezier travel across the desert.

MICE organisers planning to bring their guests to the desert safari may want to advise those who are more prone to motion-sickness to take the necessary precautions if they were to do the sand-dune drive. Of course, the guests can also request the driver to take a less adventurous route. Guests should wear slippers to  avoid having shoes filled with sand, and bring a jacket as the temperature may turn cold in the desert during the night.
