Rooms Hotel and Stamba Hotel Tbilisi, Georgia

Rooms and Stamba Hotel's unmistakable industrial past
Usually, when visiting a conservation building, what we see as being ‘conserved’ is only the building’s facade. The interior of the building would have been re-constructed to suit modern-day demands for safety and comfort. Rooms Hotel and Stamba Hotel are unique in the sense that they preserved much of the original building’s structures and features, yet infused chic, modern touches to old world charm.

Both hotels, part of the Adjara Group, are housed in what was once the most important printing and publishing house in Georgia. The designs of hotels strived to highlight the industrial era in the last century, by restoring much of the pillars and beams of the original building. Even some of the printing machineries were retained as an installation art and as a salute to the building’s original purpose.

The hotels’ shared meeting areas are varied, with some space retaining a rather raw feel and giving organisers the freedom to exercise their creativity, while other rooms were impeccably restored and equipped with high-tech facilities. These rooms are suitable for events for 20 to 100 guests. The largest meeting room is the Garden Hall which can accommodate up to 500 guests in theatre-style seating. However, the low ceiling height and multiple pillars restrict stage backdrop design and projection view; the hall’s interior decor is also a little conservative as compared to the rest of the hotel. A more inspiring space would be the amphitheatre - a great venue for shows and concerts - complete with bar and lounge to serve guests well into the night.

The design theme of modern-vintage carries through into the guest rooms, providing much nostalgia and surprise element to the guests. Rooms Hotel and Stamba Hotel are truly unique venues in Georgia that fires up creativity for event organisers. Perhaps the only complaint one might find here would be the rather dim and narrow corridors to the rooms, which may give some guests a feeling of insecurity.
